NE1's Newcastle Restaurant Week
NE1 made Newcastle the first city in Great Britain to deliver the ‘Restaurant Week’ concept. Starting with 13 restaurants, we now have over 100 participating in the twice-annual, attracting over 50,000 diners each event, who spend in excess of £850,000 during the week, generating an economic impact from the event of over £1.5m per year.
NE1's Summer in the City
NE1's Summer in the City programme combines artistic installations, additional greenery, and activities with a range of pop-up performances, classes, workshops, and tours across the 6-week school summer holidays.
The 2022 programme incorporated more than 110 free classes including yoga, HIIT workouts, storytelling, and watercolour painting, and involved local businesses including JG Windows, City Baths, and Newcastle Arts Centre. Zip-lining from the Tyne Bridge was also included in the schedule, the first time since 2019 this has been offered, and there were tours of All Saints Church, Grey's Monument, and the Guildhall.
In the post-event survey for 2021's event, 99% of respondents rated their visit highly, with 99% saying they would recommend the area to friends. 65% of respondents indicated the activities would extend the duration of their visit to the area.
NE1's Screen on The Green
NE1's summer outdoor cinema in Old Eldon Square runs annually from June through until September, showing a range of national and international sporting events, as well as 84 free family movies.
Bringing families to the square, 45% of survey respondees said their main reason for visiting the city that day was for Screen on the Green, 99% would recommend the event to friends, and 74% indicated they would stay in the area for over an hour.
Northern Pride
NE1 is a continued supporter of Northern Pride, sponsoring the event since 2015, and is thrilled to be a part of the largest free Pride event in the UK. Hosting UK Pride in 2022, the event had over 25,000 people join their march through the city, and their busiest day on-site in history. The event annually generates an economic value to the city of over £9m.
Super League's Magic Weekend
NE1 is a proud sponsor of the event which brings the Super League's 12 teams to the city and has taken place in Newcastle in 6 of the past 8 years, with the city playing host to 4 of the top 5 highest attended weekends in the event's history.
It is estimated that each weekend adds approximately £8m to Newcastle's economy.
The NE1 event was one of the most extensive and impressive welcomes for international students staged anywhere in the world and a vital way of demonstrating the essential role of international students supporting local economies.
