NE1’s Christmas Window Works of Art Unveiled Across Newcastle
Seven prominent sites across the city including in Eldon Square and the Gate have been decorated with Christmas designs created by artists, university students and pupils from local schools.
Five graphic design students from Northumbria University had their work chosen from over 30 entries; Ethan Proctor, James Lack, Klaudia Rozycka, Martyna Migawa and Chloe Arthington will now see their artwork displayed in windows across the city.
Alongside their work will be winning entries from four members of the public; Agata Lis, Alice Adams and Anne Featherstone and designs from local schools West Denton Primary and Eastlea Primary, who wowed the judges with their festive creations.
In addition to selecting the winning designs, NE1 is delighted to be working with four North East artists. Back by popular demand, Creative Ginger has again been commissioned to hand-paint his festive offering in the window of the former TM Lewin store on Grainger Street, with artists Lucy Kitchen, Sophia Barton and Sara Gibbeson also appointed to design bespoke Christmas themed windows.
15 designs will be fully installed at seven sites across the city on Wednesday 30 November. Site list:
Rachel Barlow, Marketing and Events Manager at NE1 Ltd said: “We were bowled over by the number and quality of entries we received this year in what has become our annual Christmas window design competition. It was hard to choose from the wealth of quality submissions from students, schools and the general public, but those that will grace the windows were clear favourites selected by our creative judging panel.
“We are immensely proud to support and nurture local talent across the region, by working with four local artists who have all put their creative stamp on their window designs. We are incredibly lucky to have such talented individuals in the region and are delighted that the public can share in the festive fun. People will be able to walk through Newcastle spotting the winning designs and enjoying the Christmas themed artwork.”
